William Irving Nichols met Elizabeth Root in Middlesex County, Ontario, Canada and they were married on
January 01, 1859. William with his wife Elizabeth and their daughter Sarah Ann, who was born in 1841, left
Canada in 1863 and arrived in
Lebanon, St Clair County, Illinois. William was a carpenter by trade so he started a
carriage making business. In 1865 they moved to
Buffalo, Sangamon County, Illinois and in 1868 they arrived in
Burlington, Des Moines County, Iowa. He established himself as a quality craftsman while in Burlington and this
carried him throughout his entire life. William Irving Nichols died April 29, 1901 in Burlington.
