David Dodge West was born February 20, 1894 to David and Fannie Letutia (Dodge) West in Argentine, Wyandotte County, Kansas. David attended Argentine Public Schools and married in 1916, Edith Fernalta Poley, daughter of Howard Augustus and Ida May (Shaner) Poley in Argentine, Wyandotte, Kansas. Two children were born of this marriage, Howard Robert and Jeanne B. David was hired by the Swift Meat Company as a clerk in 1912 and then promoted to Assistant Manager in 1920 at the Swift Packing House, 10th & Berger, Kansas City, Kansas. The family moved to Chicago, Illinois sometime after 1925 and David was later promoted to manger of poultry sales for Swift & Company, which included the areas of New York, Chicago and Kansas City. He retired from Swift in 1941 and in 1947, established his own company D. D. West Wholesale Meat Company at 629 Osage in the Amourdale District of Kansas City, Kansas. He married Gladys Rau Killip sometime before 1947. She was born November 12, 1906 at 1105 Montgall in Kansas City, Missouri to John and Rose Belle (Darling) Killip. Gladys died March 15, 1967 in Lawrence, Douglas, Kansas and is buried in Maple Hill Cemetery, Kansas City, Wyandotte, Kansas His first wife Edith, died March 02, 1977 in Novalto, Marin County, California and is buried in Eldora City Cemetery Eldora, Hardin County, Iowa. David Dodge West died June 17, 1957 in Kansas City, Wyandotte County, Kansas and is buried in Maple Hill Cemetery Kansas City, Wyandotte, Kansas
