Carleton, Nebraska is in the northwestern part of Thayer County, twelve miles from Hebron, Nebraska, which is the county seat. It is located on the St Joseph and Grand Island division of the Union Pacific Railroad. Large shipments are made from this point. The population of Carleton is 800. Among the business enterprises are the Citizens State Bank (formerly the Exchange Bank of Thayer County), with a capital of $25,000, two hotels and a feed mill. The Weekly Times is a local newspaper with a circulation of around 800, The schools are well attended and the buildings substantial and convenient. The churches are the Methodist, Presbyterian, United Brethren and German Lutheran.
